Market Commentary
These times are nothing short of extraordinary. Leaving aside for the moment our economic and political context, technology is advancing at a rate that literally boggles the mind.
Last month, Anthropic announced that it would restrict the release of its most advanced Artificial Intelligence (AI) model to date, Claude Mythos, to allow the world to catch up. Mythos has proven highly effective at identifying and exploiting thousands of vulnerabilities in our software infrastructure. Project Glasswing, led by Anthropic, puts the model in the hands of select technology and security firms to allow them to discover and fix these vulnerabilities prior to a broader release.
In March, Google, a Project Glasswing participant, published a research paper based on the findings of Google Quantum AI research team members, Dan Boneh of Stanford, and Justin Drake of the Ethereum Foundation, predicting the computing power required to unencrypt transactions on the blockchain could be available within four to six years. As a result, virtually every major cryptocurrency – including bitcoin – will be vulnerable to theft (without recourse).
Meanwhile Nvidia is employing open-source AI models in conjunction with its graphics processing units (GPUs) to address calibration and error challenges in quantum computing, which may, in turn, augment AI’s capabilities.
And so, this week Pope Leo XIV issued his first encyclical “Magnifica Humanitas: On Safeguarding the Human Person in the Time of Artificial Intelligence”. In the encyclical, Leo calls for oversight of AI that keeps humanity in the loop. The letter was signed on the 135th Anniversary of Pope Leo XIII’s encyclical which called out the social and economic issues arising from the Industrial Revolution.
Anthropic co-founder Christopher Olah was at the Vatican for the presentation of the 2026 encyclical. While J. Pierpont Morgan was not at the side of Pope Leo when he issued his encyclical, he was praised by Leo’s successor, Pope Pius X, as a “great and good man” upon his death in Rome in 1913.
JP MorganChase (the bank) is another Project Glasswing participant. (And this post was fact checked by Claude.)
